Products you buy through our links may earn us a commission. Oh, and if something's out of stock, oops, it was there (and all prices were accurate) at time of publication.

Welcome to Skimm Tested, where we put products to the test and then give 'em a report card. (Check out all of our tried-and-tested faves here.)

The assignment…

To see if Loops face masks are as effective as they claim, and if they deserve an official spot in our skincare routine. Use code SKIMM20 for 20% off your purchase.

What we tested…

Straight A’s in…

  • The eye masks (in general). Our favorite product by a landslide, these bright-orange masks are super easy to apply, cover your entire under-eye area, and yield almost-instant results. We did yoga, made our morning coffee, and even took the dog for a walk in these, all while feeling cute and selfie-ready. Once we peeled them off, there was a noticeable difference in brightness, puffiness, and texture. Plus, they feel refreshing while on, especially when we popped them in the fridge beforehand.

  • Grip on face. Unlike other full face masks we’ve tried, once these are applied, there’s not a whole lot of slipping or sliding. We found that when we placed the top piece first, followed by the bottom, the mask stayed completely in place. While our multitasking was fairly limited — we wouldn’t eat, workout, or talk with the face mask on — they’re great for me-time. We instead took a bath, read in bed, and even applied eye drops through the designated eye holes, all while our skin marinated.

  • Time of use. In our opinion, 10 minutes (or a loop, as the brand calls it) is the perfect amount of time for a face mask. We’re convinced we would add anything to our skincare routine if it only takes 10 minutes, especially if it gives us an instantly bright and hydrated complexion. It’s enough time for a quick meditation or quiet moment to yourself, but not too long where you have to plan ahead.

Room for growth…

  • Price tag. Our testers tried the eye masks, variety pack, and overnight slugging mask, and agreed there was at least one that they would incorporate into their skincare routine. However, $5 per disposable mask does feel a bit pricey. A few of our testers reported that because of this, they would likely use the masks once a week, before a special occasion, or as a little weekend treat.

  • Ooziness. Wow, do these ooze. As soon as we opened the packaging, the serum easily ran out. While we admit we were pleased to see a good amount of formula, these are best applied over the sink. We likely wouldn’t use these masks on the go, in an airplane, or somewhere where we couldn’t wash our hands immediately after.

  • Use of plastic. There’s a lot of plastic packaging involved, so we wouldn’t give these a high grade on the sustainability front. Since there are plastic layers bordering each part of each mask, application can be a bit tricky. When our fingers were covered in serum, it was hard to peel off those layers.

Plays well with…

  • The rest of your skincare routine. These are an easy step to add in, especially since the nighttime slugging mask can be your last step before bed.

  • All skin types — our testers’ skin ranged from sensitive to redness-prone to oily, and everyone was pleased with how it affected their complexion. No post-use flare-ups (like rosacea and acne) here.

  • Those with partners who want to venture into skincare. Since the masks have a gelly texture, we found our partners curious to try them too.

Gets extra credit for…

  • Cute and minimalist packaging that gives clear and concise instructions on when and how to use.

  • A formula that’s been tested by dermatologists and made without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and drying alcohol.

  • Being a great gift for skincare lovers (we’ve featured them here), or a go-to group activity to do with friends on a night in.

How we did our homework…

  • Five editors, with a range of skin types (rosacea, normal/oily, sensitive, dry, and acne-prone), tested Loops face masks as instructed (10 minutes each, 3-5 times per week) for two weeks. We tried all of the masks in the variety pack: Sunrise Service, Clean Slate, Night Shift, Double Take, and Weekly Reset; plus Dream Sleep and the Under Eye Mask. We also tried doing activities while wearing them to make sure our range of motion wasn’t super limited. We took special note of how our skin looked and felt before the masks were applied, during, and after. Did we experience burning or tingling? Did we see a great improvement right after the 10 minutes were up? We even recorded our results days after use. Our testers marked any skin reactions or breakouts that may have been caused by the masks, and there were none.
