While I always love how I feel when I take the time to style an everyday outfit, most of the time…I just don’t have the brain space. In honor of our spring edition of Fashion You’ll Actually Wear Week, I decided to use one of my biggest morning woes to help you. I’ve rounded up 19 pieces you can treat as one-and-done outfits, things you can put on quickly, without needing to overaccessorize.
Looking for more affordable, yet stylish ways to revamp your wardrobe this spring? Here’s how to shop at Old Navy, how to shop for your body type, and the best spring denim for every situation.
A basic wrap dress with stylish details…
The trick to treating dresses as a single outfit: the details need to stand out. This one from Anthropologie has contrast piping and buttons that cinch the waist. And because it’s a midi length, it’ll work on shorter frames. Pair with sandals and call it a day.
A dress I got for my bridal era…
Brides, I just found a dress that makes it look like you put way more thought into your outfit than you actually did. This vest-style dress looks like a top and a skirt, and can be worn to anything from engagement photos to a bridal shower. It also comes in black, if you’re looking for a year-round option that’s office-friendly.
A utility jumpsuit with a chic upgrade…
This utility jumpsuit is easier to dress up because of its material. Instead of typical denim or canvas, it’s made of satin. You can wear it with flats and a cool necklace to elevate it.
A less-expensive version of a dress I already own…
It’s not news to any of us that Quince is the master of the inexpensive alternative. I bought a very similar version of this dress from Reformation last year, and was pleased to see that Quince made the style at a fraction of the cost, with way more color options. Between the ruffle sleeves and the lace inset, no styling is required. I like to wear mine with a fun pair of earrings.
A two-piece set with main character energy…
The best way to think less about getting dressed: go for a two-piece set. That way, the hard work has already been done for you. I’m currently eyeing this one from Reformation. It comes with a bubble-shaped camisole and a matching maxi skirt with a ruched waistband. Just add some kitten heels.
The sweater that continues to go viral…
Between its popularity amongst influencers and its appearance on CBK in Love Story, J.Crew’s Rollneck Sweater is worth its hype. It’s a sweater you can wear all year because it’s made of cotton. Layer it over shorts and a tank or wear it with jeans. Because it comes in so many colors, you really can wear it on its own and feel put-together.
A T-shirt dress that looks expensive…
Last year, our Senior Writer raved about a T-shirt dress from Staud, and ever since, I’ve been looking for a more affordable option. Luckily, Old Navy just launched this one. It has a vintage-esque, roomy silhouette (which is perfect for warmer days when you want to throw something on and go). It comes in petite and tall lengths, sizes up to 4X, and comes in six colors.
A jumpsuit from a brand that’s so underrated…
While Spanx is popular for its undergarments, I think it also has fantastic clothing pieces. The quality of the materials and silhouettes are unmatched. This mockneck jumpsuit is drapey and looks super professional, but is so soft that it feels like pajamas. It has four-way stretch, spacious pockets, and UPF protection.
A colorblocked jumpsuit for more casual days…
This is another option from Spanx that’s more casual than the first. It’s ideal for weekends, where you want to feel like you’re wearing a full outfit that’s still on the comfier side (making it ideal for travel). It has a cinched waist with four-way stretch and gives the illusion that you’re wearing a matching set. I love that it comes in petite and tall lengths, too.
A dress that feels like nothing…
Once again, Spanx understands how to look good when you feel like wearing sweats. This AirEssentials dress is made of the brand’s cloud-like fabric. It’s stretchy, but structured, thanks to the tank style and gathered waist. Add your go-to pair of heels and you’ll be conference- or date night-ready.
The single piece that’ll change up jeans and a tee…
One of my favorite trends of last spring and summer was the resurgence of beaded necklaces. As someone whose go-to uniform is jeans and a white tee, it’s a nearly effortless way to change up the look a little bit. This new style from Madewell is chunky, with oversized semiprecious beads. You can pick from cherry, jade, and a brown version, but I’m eyeing the cherry one for spring and summer.
A statement button-down…
One of the easiest outfits of all time is a colorful button-down paired with your favorite pair of jeans. This one from Madewell comes in a beautiful kelly green that’ll do all the talking for you. I’d wear it with cream or white jeans to keep it extra springy. I love that it has baggier sleeves and a drawstring waist. You can wear it on its own or open with a tank top underneath.
A windbreaker in a trending silhouette…
The funnel-neck jacket is all the rage right now. If you don’t want to spend a ton on the trendy style, start with this option from Uniqlo. It’s equal parts structured and drapey, and it’s one of those pieces that makes the entire outfit. You can wear it with everything from athleisure to sturdy denim.
A linen set from Gap…
To put it lightly, Gap has been killing it lately, especially when it comes to matching sets. If you’re new to wearing matching sets, this linen-blend option from the brand is straightforward and easy to wear. You have to buy the boatneck tank top and straight-leg trousers separately, though they’re great to mix and match with other pieces. I’d wear the look with ballet flats or a sleek sneaker. Consider it three outfits in one.
A sweater that’s pre-layered for you…
No one talks about how the layered T-shirt/sweater trend is a little complicated. Sounds dramatic, but finding the right T-shirt to peek out underneath your sweater is harder than you may think. Zara solved that issue with this sweater that has a contrast collar that makes the piece look layered.
Some twofer dresses that look like two pieces in one…
I’ve written about the twofer dress trend and how it makes getting dressed for just about anything infinitely easier. Aside from those picks, Gap and Moon River have options that are accessible and versatile. This version from Moon River is a midi style that looks like a vest with a contrasting skirt, while Gap’s is a mixed-media version that looks like a V-neck T-shirt and a skirt. Both are great options to keep on hand, depending on your needs.
