Interior designer mom is back and better than ever. This time she’s serving up all the best fall, winter, and holiday decor trends she’s been inspired by recently. She’s talking marble, party-ready placemats, blue and white chinoiserie, and more. And since I was lucky enough to go antiquing with her last month, I got these tips firsthand as she was browsing the aisles and telling me what’s hot and what's not. Did you miss her?

placemats
Etsy

A set of embroidered placemats you can use year round…

According to my mom, your fall tablescape is not complete without a placemat that adds a little flourish. These are linen, embroidered with gold bees, and have a pretty notched edge. You can get embroidered napkins to match, and the seller also makes gorgeous Christmas placemats. ($40+, CreativeStudioElena via Etsy)

bar-cart
Wayfair

A rattan bar cart for a touch of boho-chic…

This season, my mom is bringing outside materials like rattan and wicker inside her home. This bar cart has a tray-like top for serving coffee or water and a bottom shelf to keep wine and liquor bottles. The best part? It comes fully assembled and has wheels so you can move it easily from room to room. ($205.99, Wayfair)

ornament
Etsy

A hand-painted ornament of your home…

Personalized everything is in. What could be better than hanging a painted rendition of your happy place on your tree? Or give it as a housewarming gift or to newlyweds. All you have to do is send in a photo and the artist will take care of the rest. FYI, the shop is taking a short break to catch up on orders but will be taking new orders on October 28. pumpkins
Ballard Designs

Chinoiserie pumpkins for the nontraditional…

My mom taught me about the popularity of chinoiserie at the beginning of the year, and she says the trend is still going strong. If orange pumpkins aren’t your thing, blue and white fall decor is an elegant alternative. These pumpkins are made of terracotta, hand-painted so each one is unique, and can be left out all year. They come in short and tall versions. ($89.25, Ballard Designs)

hand-towels
Etsy

Chinoiserie hand towels you can personalize…

These towels feature a fall arrangement of orange, blue, and white pumpkins in a blue and white chinoiserie planter. There are three different designs to choose from, and you can add a last name or other message at the bottom. You’ll want to leave them out all season, and they make a great hostess gift for Thanksgiving. ($16+, CompanyTwentySix via Etsy)

flameless-candle
Pottery Barn

A festive flameless candle…

My mom has always been a bit wary of candles and is definitely the reason I never leave home without blowing mine out. (Thank you, Mom.) She loves the glow of electric candles for the holidays, especially these tree candles. They run on batteries but flicker just like real candles, and you can set them on a timer for up to five hours. They come in white and green and three different sizes. ($79+, Pottery Barn)

wreath-hanger
Amazon

A wreath hanger with a Western flare…

I have equestrian elements all around my apartment thanks to my mom, and the trend isn’t going away any time soon. This wreath hanger is a subtle and unexpected way to infuse a little horse girl into your fall decor. It’s made of brass with a horseshoe at the top, and can be used inside or outside. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

decanter
Perigold

An equestrian decanter and glasses set…

For those who really want to lean into the equestrian vibe, this decanter comes with a horse head stopper and two horse bit-adorned tumblers. It looks sleek and stylish sitting on your bar cart, and the set is made of high-quality glass that’s scratch- and chip-resistant. Pro tip from Mom: Add another, more modern decanter to your display to balance out the horsiness of it all. ($96, Perigold)

coffee-table
Article

A coffee table with a marble top…

This season, designers are leaning into all marble everything. The mixed materials on this coffee table make it an interesting addition to any room. It comes with either walnut or oak legs and has a smooth white and gray marble top. It’s also available in a side table if you’re ready to fully commit to the trend. ($329, Article)

animal-vase
Anthropologie

An animal-shaped bud vase that works for all holidays…

I’m a sucker for any animal-themed design piece, and while my mom likes to point out that I really don’t need any more in my apartment (she’s right), I have my eye on this polar bear nonetheless. These woodland creature bud vases are accented with gold, and will look festive all throughout fall and winter. They’re just too cute to pass up. ($20+, Anthropologie)

matchbox-holder
Etsy

A vintage matchbox holder to display your matches…

I recently started collecting matchboxes, so when my mom and I stumbled upon a matchbox holder in an antique shop, I knew I had to have it. I love the dainty design of this one, and it’s great for displaying a special set of matches from your favorite restaurant or a wedding. This one with a scalloped tray is amazing, too. ($28, UnderfootVintage via Etsy)

marble-pumpkin
Target

A marble pumpkin that looks way more expensive than it is…

This pumpkin stopped me in my tracks. It’s made out of burgundy marble with gold flecks that makes it an unexpected addition to your fall display. It’s small enough to sit on a shelf, but is heavy enough to use as a paperweight on a desk. It also comes in a large, more traditional marble version. ($20, Target)

gold-placemats
Amazon

Gold placemats that are easy to clean…

These gold placemats are made of pressed vinyl that’s stain-resistant and won’t slide around, even if they’re on a tablecloth. The leaf design is perfect for your Thanksgiving or holiday party tablescape, but it’s pretty season-agnostic, so you can also use it for birthdays. Once you go placemat, you’ll never go back. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

table-lamp
West Elm

A modern table lamp my mom and I are obsessed with…

This lamp is mixed materials at its best, featuring an organic marble base and a metal shade. We love that the marble is more warm-toned with shades of brown, and it gives off a retro, ’70s vibe. Grab a set to upgrade your nightstands instantly. ($159, West Elm)

blanket
Cozy Earth

A throw blanket that’s worth the investment…

When Cozy Earth first released their Cuddle Blanket, I was lucky enough to try it and could not believe how cozy it is, and how elevated it looks draped over my sofa. This new bubble version is my latest obsession. The bubble design of the faux fur is so chic, you’ll want to leave it out all the time. Plus, you can get matching pillows. Movie night will never be the same. ($255+, Cozy Earth)

Buy it
menorah
Anthropologie

A modern take on the menorah…

This subtle menorah is made of iridescent blue glass that’ll shimmer and shine as you light a candle each night. It’s a beautiful piece to leave out all through the holidays, and you can buy special candles to go with it. ($178, Anthropologie)

santa
Bergdorf Goodman

A hand-painted Santa figurine to pass down…

My favorite part of my mom’s Christmas decorations is the collection of Santa figurines she displays on the mantel. She has big ones and small ones, tall ones and stout ones, and each year I find a new favorite. I’ve started collecting Santas as well, and the goal is to own one by Vaillancourt Folk Art, the family-owned brand that has been handmaking chalkware figurines since 1984. I love that this one is a nontraditional blue and white, but if you’re looking for a classic, you can’t go wrong with this one. ($260, Bergdorf Goodman)
