Skimm Her Life is a series in our weekly newsletter, Skimm Shopping, where smart women share their favorite things.

Shanna Goldstone, the founder and creative director of plus-size brand Pari Passu, is here today to tell us about her latest collection. Her line goes up to size 24, and is known for its data-first fit system. Later, we’ll share some of our go-to picks from Pari Passu going into fall. Shanna, take it away…

What inspired you to start Pari Passu?

I was inspired to start Pari Passu from the work I did with actress Melissa McCarthy on her collection Melissa McCarthy Seven7. I was shocked to see how few clothing options were available to women above a size 14. Seeing the inequity between straight sizes and plus sizes motivated me to develop a fit system that focuses on women’s body shapes, regardless of their numeric size.

For our readers new to your brand, what are some items from Pari Passu they should start with?

I’d suggest starting with our trousers. We are known for our fit, and offer all of our trousers in three shapes and seven sizes. For fall, I’m really into our Katy top and our faux-patent Lynne coat. The Katy top has a ‘60s vibe with a wide mock turtleneck, and the Lynne coat is our take on a peacoat.

What are the most important things to look out for when shopping for plus-sizing?

Fit! Someone once said to me, “Just because you can get into something doesn’t mean that it fits,” and that couldn’t be more true. When something truly fits your body shape, regardless of the garment style, it immediately elevates the look. Everything looks better when it’s fit to your unique body shape, so don’t hesitate to take something to your local tailor for a little extra love.

Who are your favorite retailers for plus-sizing?

There are some great independent brands out there who are really invested in the customer — both in the clothing they offer and the experience they provide. I would highly recommend shopping at women-owned brands like See Rose Go, Baacal, and Mayes NYC.

And now, our picks from Pari Passu:

Pari Passu

A motto jacket that’s perfect for fall…

It isn’t fall without a leather jacket. This one has a high-low silhouette that provides a unique drape when worn open. We’d wear this one over a midi dress and boots to the office, or with jeans and a sweater on the weekends. It also has a two-way zipper that’ll make putting it on easy. ($128, Pari Passu)

An on-trend striped shirt…

You can never go wrong with a striped button-down, and this one has a trendy blue and red color combination. Wear it on its own or open over a T-shirt. It’s made from study, yet soft cotton poplin that’ll last for seasons to come. ($117, Pari Passu)

Some classic work trousers…

These virgin wool pants taper right at the ankle and are high-rise. We love that they have an invisible zipper that won’t rub and are made of 4% elastane for a comfortable stretch. Because they hit at the perfect spot, they look just as good with boots as they do with flats. Throw on a sweater and you’re ready for a day in the office. ($300, Pari Passu)

Pari Passu

A denim shirtdress…

We can always get behind a denim dress for its elevated-yet-casual versatility. This one has a classic shirtdress silhouette with balloon sleeves and a slightly exaggerated collar. It’s one of the many pieces part of the brand’s patented Fit System, where you can pick from three shapes and six sizes for a custom fit. We’d wear these with tall suede boots for fall and sandals going into spring. ($598, Pari Passu)
