The assignment…

To see if the Flexispot Sit2Go 2-in-1 Fitness Chair is worth swapping out your current home-office chair for. Like its name implies, you’ll get a workout by pedaling while you work. Psst…you can use code SKIMM30 for $30 off through June 30.

Straight A’s in…

  • Ease of use. The pedaling motion is super-smooth across resistance levels, and the pedals are wide and comfortable. Throughout the day, you can keep track of things like distance covered and minutes spent cycling.

  • Comfort. We found the seat cushion to be firm but supportive and sturdy, and the mesh backrest never left us with aches even after a full workday of sitting on it. Aka the chair component was comfortable all around. Adjusting the height level was also simple. When in use, the fitness bike stays in one place and doesn’t shift positions whatsoever, but it does roll easily when it needs to be moved.

  • Noise level. It’s truly whisper-quiet. So you can pedal without disturbing anyone else in your home, and use it during meetings without it being a distraction. Multitasking FTW.

Room for growth…

  • Resistance adjustment. Adjusting between intensity levels using the manual knob isn’t the smoothest, and sometimes we found ourselves accidentally skipping a level while adjusting.

  • Display. The screen may be tough to see in dimmer lighting, as the display doesn’t light up.

  • Seat position. Our editor who comfortably used this chair is 5’7”, and you can adjust the seat forward or backward with an Allen wrench. But those on the shorter side may find it a bit more difficult to sit all the way back and pedal simultaneously. Customer reviews note that adding a seat pillow (we rec this one) helps solve this.

Plays well with…

  • Anyone who finds it tough to get in regular exercise during their workdays.

  • Those who sit at an adjustable-height desk. We used this fitness chair very comfortably with a standing desk, but it might not be as easily used with a fixed-height desk. (Note, however, that there is a version of the fitness chair that comes with the option to add on a desktop.)

  • People who want a fitness chair that will blend seamlessly into their decor scheme. We tested the monotone black colorway, which is unobtrusive and sleek-looking.

Gets extra credit for…

  • Being super-easy to assemble. Instructions were clear, and it took around just 15 minutes for one person to put together. (Note: We only found it difficult to figure out where to insert the battery, as this was not clearly labeled on instructions.)

  • A display that conveniently resets only when you hold down the button — rather than anytime you stop using the bike.

  • Shipping free and coming with a 30-day risk-free return.

How we did our homework…

  • One editor replaced her usual office chair with the Flexispot Sit2Go for over a month, exclusively using the fitness chair during her workdays at home (approximately four days a week, for eight hours a day). She observed how her back, neck and shoulders felt at the end of the day, paying mind to the support and comfort offered by the chair itself. She used the pedaling function for anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours (dispersed over the course of a day), sometimes even during meetings, paying attention to noise level, ease of use, and sturdiness of the device. She also noted how sturdy and comfortable the fitness chair was at different seat heights and resistance levels.

Footnotes…

  • $399.99, use code SKIMM30 for $30 off through June 30.

  • Available in black and white

  • Eight resistance levels

  • Can support up to 220 pounds

  • Good for those between 4’9” and 6’3”
