How I Tested...

I used the wireless muscle stimulator with the menstrual relief pad attachment every day throughout two menstrual cycles. My period typically lasts five days. I took notes on ease of use, strength, pain relief, battery life, and design.

Test Results...

  • Ease of use. It’s public knowledge that I hate reading instructions, but I found this device very straightforward to set up. After attaching the small round stimulator to the adhesive muscle pad, you press its power button to sync with the remote control. The screen on the controller lets you toggle between six different types of massage treatments with just two buttons. I also loved that the whole system is wireless and doesn’t require Wi-Fi or an app installation.

  • Sleek design. This product reminded me of a high-end piece of tech. The silicone material on the controller and stimulators is soft and supple, and the controller’s screen is crystal clear (though not colored). The stimulators are compact, and the case takes up as much room as a pair of over-the-ear headphones.

  • Pain relief. I’ve never tried electrotherapy before testing these stimulators, so I was a little nervous. Chirp’s SignalWeave™ technology combines both EMS and TEN therapy for pain relief that’s subtle, but strong. I only got to intensity level 11 before lowering the strength. (I typically lived between levels 4 and 7.) I really liked the “massage” and “stretch” modes, and the “woah nelly” option made me laugh. Overall, it helped me feel physically better — not only because of the electrical stimulation, but because the varying patterns and intense buzzing sensation kept me distracted from my symptoms.

  • Portable charging case. My favorite part of this product was the charging case. The case is designed to hold the adhesive pads, remote control, and two stimulators, and it has an interior side pocket for the charging cord (which can be plugged in directly to the case). Its harder shell helps protect against wear and tear while keeping all the pieces organized.

Sidenotes...

  • Medical disclaimer. While you don’t need a prescription to purchase these Chirp products, it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor or a medical professional before using muscle stimulation technology.

  • Warranty. All Chirp products come with a 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects. After a quick inspection, they’ll repair or replace your product for free.

  • Other Chirp Halo™ pads. In addition to the menstrual relief pads, you can also shop their pads for knees, feet, lower and upper back, quads, glutes, calves, shoulders, hip flexors, and traps — all of which are compatible with the wireless stimulators. The body-hugging adhesive layer on every pad feels like a cool gel that is sensitive skin-friendly. Each pad can be reused over 20 times without needing a replacement. Just be sure to keep the plastic backing that’s included for easier storage.
